Guidelines for Selecting Grantees of the Scholarship of the Fund for Young Molecular Scientists (summary)
1. No. of grantees: Up to three per year in principle
2. Selection test: from August 31 to September 1st, 2009
3. Selection method: Document screening and interview. Applicants from overseas must submit two letters of recommendation.
4. Interview method:
(1) Presentation in English of the details of past studies and future studies that the applicant wishes to conduct (30 min.)
(2) The time for questions shall be approximately 15 minutes. The answers may be given in Japanese.
(3) The time for questions on basic scholastic ability shall be approximately 10 minutes. The answers may be given in Japanese.
* The time of (2) and (3) may be changed as needed.
5. Title of the recipient: IMS Scholarship Student
6. Application qualifications: Students qualified for application are as follows. However, research fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, government-financed foreign students and recipients of similar scholarships are excluded.
(1) Students entering a doctoral course (transfer admission to the third year of a five-year doctoral course)
(2) Students currently attending a five-year doctoral course and moving up to the third year in the next academic year
(3) Students currently attending a doctoral course
7. Recipients’ qualifications, etc.:
(1) The period of scholarship shall be the shortest term of study and shall be for a maximum of three years.
(2) Students entering in October shall not receive scholarship until April of the following year.
(3) If a recipient takes a leave of absence, the scholarship payment shall be suspended in principle and resumed at the time of readmission.
(4) If a recipient is selected to be a research fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, a government-financed foreign student or a recipient of similar scholarships, this scholarship shall be terminated.
(5) To use the fund effectively, students who are receiving this scholarship are encouraged to apply for competitive scholarship programs, such as the research fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
8. Amount of payment:
Scheduled to be ¥2.5 million in total (¥1.6 million for scholarship and ¥900,000 for RAemployment)
