IMS SRA Supports

2016_SRA_en.jpgIMS (Institute for Molecular Science) will provide financial supports for outstanding students who enter Departments of Structural Molecular Science and Functional Molecular Science.

SRA Supports for Three-Year Doctoral Course Students

1. No. of Accepted Students: A few

2. Application Period:  From July 21 to July 27, 2017

3. Selection Examination: From August 21 to August 22, 2017

4. Application Qualifications:

(1) Students applying for a Three-Year Doctoral Course (transfer admission to the third year of a Five-Year Doctoral Course)

      (2) Students who were admitted to enter a Three-year Doctoral Course

(3) Students currently attending a Five-Year Doctoral Course in Sokendai and moving up to the third year in next academic year / Students in 3rd grade or up of a Five-Year Doctoral Course in Sokendai / Students in 1st grade or up of a Three-Year Doctoral Course in Sokendai

* Note that research fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (DC1, DC2), government-financed foreign students and recipients of similar scholarships are excluded.

5. Selection method: Document screening and interview

      ▪ Document screening method: To review with application documents
      ▪ Interview method:

(1) Presentation of the details of past studies and future studies that the applicant wishes to conduct (25 min.) [In English]

(2)   The time for questions shall be approximately 30 minutes. [In English. Japanese is also allowed.]

(3) The time for questions on basic scholastic ability shall be approximately 10 minutes. [In English. Japanese is also allowed.]

6. The Term of the Support: Within one year. However, the adoption period shall be extended based on the review of research activities every year. In this case, the upper limit of the total adoption period is as follows.

(1) Students entering a Three-Year Doctoral Course (transfer admission to the third year of a Five-Year Doctoral Course)
     3 years after entering SOKENDAI

(2) Students currently attending a Five-Year Doctoral Course and moving up to the third year in next academic year
      3 years after moving up to the third year of a Five-Year Doctoral Course

(3) Students in 3rd grade or up of a Five-Year Doctoral Course / Students in 1st grade or up of a Three-Year Doctoral Course
      From October after qualification of the SRA. During the minimum period required for graduation.

* If a recipient takes a leave of absence, the term of absence is not included in the term of the support.

* If a recipient is selected as a research fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (DC1, DC2), a government-financed foreign student, or a recipient of similar scholarships, the SRA support shall be terminated.

7. Annual amount of payment: Scheduled to be over 2.3 million yen/year.

8. How to apply: Submit following documents to Graduate Student Affairs Section.

   (1) Students in Japanese universities who will take entrance examination for the  
   Three-Year Doctoral Course in these departments

  a) Application form for IMS SRA Support (Form 1)
  b) Evaluation report from prospective supervisor

(2) Graduate Students in foreign universities, who will take entrance examination for the Three-Year Doctoral Course in these departments

           a) Application form for IMS SRA Supports (Form 1)
           b) Evaluation report from prospective supervisor and at least one letter of     
               recommendation from your academic advisors

(3) Students who have been granted admission into the Three-Year Doctoral Course in these departments

          a) Application form for IMS SRA Supports (Form 1)
          b) Summary of previous researches (Form 2)
          c) Summary of publications and presentations (Form 3)
          d) Future research plans (Form 4)
          e) Reprints of publications (offprints)  
          f) Evaluation report from prospective supervisor

(4) Student in these departments

                a) Application form for IMS SRA Supports (Form 1)
                b) Summary of previous researches (Form 2)
                c) Summary of publications and presentations (Form 3)
                d) Future research plans (Form 4)
                e) Reprints of publications (offprints)
                f) Evaluation report from supervisor

SRA Supports for Five-Year Doctoral Course

1. No. of Accepted Students: A few

2. Application Qualifications:

Students who will take entrance examination for a Five-Year Doctoral Course

* Note that, recipients of government-financed foreign student scholarships and similar ones are excluded.

3. Selection method: Evaluation of the results of the entrance examination

4. The Term of the Support:

Within one year. However, the adoption period shall be extended based on the review of research activities. In this case, the upper limit of the total adoption period is 2 years after entering SOKENDAI.

*  If a recipient takes a leave of absence, the term of absence is not included in the term of the support.

*  If a recipient is selected as a government-financed foreign student or a recipient of similar scholarships, this support shall be terminated.

5. Annual amount of payment: Scheduled to be over 1.7 million yen/year
