IMS (Institute for Molecular Science) will provide financial supports for outstanding students who enter Molecular Science Program (Department of Structural Molecular Science and Functional Molecular Science).

<For incoming students>

[SRA Supports for Three-Year Doctoral Course Students]

*From the 2023 academic year, the Department of Structural and Functional Molecular Science were reorganized into Molecular Science Program in accordance with the reorganization of SOKENDAI.
SRA support is available for students who enter Molecular Science Program (Department of Structural Molecular Science and Functional Molecular Science).

  2. Application Period:
    (First Round) Thursday, June 27 ~ Wednesday, July 3, 2024
    (Second Round) Thursday, December 5 ~ Wednesday, December 11, 2024
     
  3. Selection Examination:
    (First Round) Monday, August 26 ~ Tuesday, August 27, 2024
    (Second Round) Monday, January 27 ~ Tuesday, January 28, 2025
     
  4. Application Qualifications:
    Applicants must take the entrance examination for the doctoral program (3-year course). However, JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship recipients, Japanese Government Scholarship recipients, or those who receive an equivalent scholarship are uneligible to apply.
     
  5. Selection method: Document screening and interview
    ▪ Document screening method: To review with application documents
    ▪ Interview method: Interviews will be conducted in Room 301 of the Research Building or online (Online interviews are only available for international residents).
    (1) Presentation of the details of past studies and future studies that the applicant wishes to conduct (20 min.) [In English]
    (2) The time for questions shall be approximately 10 minutes. [In English. Japanese is also allowed.]
    (3) The time for questions on basic scholastic ability shall be approximately 10 minutes.

  6. The Term of the Support: Within one year. However, the adoption period shall be extended based on the review of research activities every year. In this case, the upper limit of the total adoption period is 3 years from the month of entrance to the minimum period of study.
    * If a recipient takes a leave of absence, the term of absence is not included in the term of the support. * If a recipient is selected as a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship recipient, a SOKENDAI Special Researcher, a government-financed foreign student, or a recipient of similar scholarships, the SRA support shall be terminated.
     
  7. Annual amount of payment: Scheduled to be approximately 2.6 million yen/year.
     
  8. How to apply: Submit following documents to Graduate Student Affairs Section.
    (1) Doctoral course (Three-Year doctoral course) entrance examination candidates who are enrolled in a university or other institution in Japan
    a) Application form for IMS SRA Supports (Form 1)
    b) Evaluation report from prospective supervisor
    (2) Doctoral course (Three-Year doctoral course) entrance examination candidates who are enrolled in a university or other institution in a foreign country
    a) Application form for IMS SRA Supports (Form 1)
    b) Evaluation report from prospective supervisor+Letter of recommendation from other than the prospective supervisor

[SRA Supports for Five-Year Doctoral Course Students]

  1. No. of Accepted Students: A few
     
  2. Eligibility : Applicants who take the entrance examination for the doctoral program (5-year course). However, Japanese Government Scholarship recipients, or those who receive an equivalent scholarships are not eligible.
     
  3. Selection Method: Based on the evaluation results of the entrance examination.
     
  4. The Term of the Support: Within one year from the month of entrance or the month following the month of entrance. However, the adoption period shall be extended based on the review of research activities every year.
    In this case, the upper limit of the total adoption period is two years from the month of entrance. * If a recipient takes a leave of absence, the term of absence is not included in the term of the support. * If a recipient is selected as a government-financed foreign student, or a recipient of similar scholarships, the SRA support shall be terminated.
     
  5. Annual amount of payment: Scheduled to be approximately 2 million yen/year.

SRA Supports for Three-Year Doctoral Course Students

3. Selection Examination: Monday, August 26 ~ Tuesday, August 27, 2024

 

4. Application Qualifications:

(1) Students who were admitted to enter a Three-year Doctoral Course
(2) Current students of a Three-Year Doctoral Course
(3) Students currently in 2nd grade of a Five-Year Doctoral Course and moving up to the 3rd grade / Students in 3rd grade or up of a Five-Year Doctoral Course in Sokendai
* Note that research fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (DC1, DC2), SOKENDAI Special Researcher, government-financed foreign students and recipients of similar scholarships are excluded.


5. Selection method: Document screening and interview

3 years after moving up to the third grade of a Five-Year Doctoral Course
(2) Students in 3rd grade or up of a Five-Year Doctoral Course / Students in 1st grade or up of a Three-Year Doctoral Course
From October after qualification of the SRA. During the minimum period required for graduation.
* If a recipient takes a leave of absence, the term of absence is not included in the term of the support.
* If a recipient is selected as a research fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (DC1, DC2), SOKENDAI Special Researcher, a government-financed foreign student, or a recipient of similar scholarships, the SRA support shall be terminated.
