Press Release
Dr. Mizuki Tada and her colleagues at IMS and collaborators at JASRI SPring-8 succeeded in measuring space-resolved micro-XAFS of a single catalyst particle of NiOx/Ce2Zr2Oy catalyst for CH4 steam reforming.
CH4 steam-reforming is one of the important reactions to convert CH4 to H2 and we have found that Ni-supported Ce2Zr2Ox is active for the CH4 steam-reforming. 2D-space-resolved XAFS/XRF analysis of a Ni/Ce2Zr2Ox single catalyst particle by using X-ray micro-beam whose size was similar to the size of a single Ce2Zr2Ox particle was investigated at SPring-8 BL37XU. We succeeded in determining the oxidation states and local coordination structures of the supported Ni species on a practical Ce2Zr2Ox catalyst particle and the micro-XAFS has for the first time revealed the microscopic structural information of catalytically active and inactive phases of the supported Ni species on a single catalyst particle.
