On the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry (Commentary by Yoshihito Watanabe, Director General)

Congratulations to Professor Susumu Kitagawa on winning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Memories of serving as team leader in the "Chemistry of Coordination Space" project (2004-2007), a designated research area summarized by Professor Susumu Kitagawa, came flooding back as if it were yesterday.

Furthermore, this award has made me realize just how privileged we are to have had Professor Kitagawa serve as a research advisor at the Institute for Molecular Science since 2022, attending every research group's presentation each year and offering valuable comments. At the Institute for Molecular Science's 50th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony held on April 22nd this year, you delivered a special lecture. Hearing you share memories of conducting various measurement experiments at the Institute in your younger days filled me with joy, knowing that the Institute could have been of even slight assistance to your research.

We once again express our deepest respect for establishing the groundbreaking concept of PCP/MOF and sincerely wish for the continued advancement of your research endeavors.
