Summary | The field of Photonics is one of the most active areas of research today, with implications for fields as diverse as communications, nanotechnology, and biomedicine. Stanford University, with a history of research spanning topics from the most basic to the applied, has a broad program in Photonics. In this talk, I will introduce the University and its efforts in this area, illustrating the synergies that exist when basic and applied research coexist in the same institution. I will also discuss some of the work in my own laboratory, in micro- and nano-structured optical materials and their applications. |
