Summary | We analyzed the heartbeat of crustacean animals, using detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). The EKG was recorded from freely moving animals in normal conditions and then in terminal conditions until the life came to an end. We found that the scaling exponents calculated by DFA characterized quantitatively conditions of the cardiac control system. We propose that scaling exponents can represent whether the subjects are under sick or healthy conditions. |
