Summary | In recent years, environmental issues of global warming have become significant topics. To overcome the environmental problems, effective utilization of renewable energies such as solar and wind energy, for example, the conversion and storage of surplus energies, is a critical issue. One of the prospective candidates is production of hydrogen via water electrolysis in polymer electrolyte water electrolyzer (PEWE). Another realistic candidate is large-scale energy storage systems using Li-ion batteries (LIB). In our study, we have developed novel electrode materials using nanocarbons such as IrO2 catalysts supported on heteroatom-doped graphene for PEWE and vertical-aligned carbon nanotube (CNT)-modified Cu electrodes for LIB to improve the performance of these electrodes.
