概 要

By combining interferometric time-resolved two-photon photoemission (ITR-2PP) technique with photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM), we explore the dynamics of localized silver surface plasmon (SP) with unprecedented 50-as time precision and 50-nm spatial resolution. 10-fs, 400-nm laser light excites a coherent oscillation of several SP modes on a silver film. Two-dimensional distribution of SPs is mapped by imaging the plasmon-mediated 2PP emission with the PEEM. The image shows primarily emission from localized plasmon modes.

We record a movie of the coherent SP dynamics with 330 as (1/4 optical cycle) per frame interval. The ITR-PEEM movie shows how the oscillations of SPs evolve in time. For delay times shorter than pulse width, all dots are driven at carrier frequency of the laser light. However, after pump-pulse passed, SPs start to oscillate at oscillations for the delay times of 13 - 40 fs. The phase-dependent excitation and imaging of SP modes corresponds to a demonstration of coherent control on nanometer scale electron-magnetic fields.
