Prof. La-Sheng Long (Visiting Associate Professor from Xiamen University)
演題:"Investigation on Water Structure and its dielectric constant confined in coordination polymers"

Abstract: Water is of fundamental importance for human life and plays an important role in many biological and chemical systems. Precisely structural data of various hydrogen-bonded water networks in diverse environments is a key to understand the behavior of water. We report here preparation of different water clusters, 1D and 2D water polymers in supramolecular architecture, revealing the contribution of the surroundings to water structures, as well as that of water to the assembly of supramolecular architectures. The dielectric constant of water polymer was measured at different temperatures, showing much different temperature-dependent behavior as that of water in nature.

講演者:Dr. Mohamedally Kurmoo from Universite Louis Pasteur
演題:"Magnetism from Molecular Materials, Minerals and Cosmetics"

Abstract: Magnetism is present in many areas of interest and in natural and synthetic systems. The laboratory synthesis of natural minerals provides clean materials where the intrinsic properties can be studied. My talk will focus on several materials, synthetic minerals, molecular systems as well as series of transition metals cosmetics. In particular, I will rationalize approaches in enhancing the critical temperatures and the magnetic hardness. Molecular materials based on cobalt hydroxide will be presented where particular attention will be given to the design of 1D and 2D systems that can sustain porosity. Transformation of the type of long range magnetic ordering as a function of inserted molecules will be presented. A key issue of this work is to correlate the properties with the crystal structures and in particular the determination of the magnetic structure based on neutron diffractions. Preliminary results pertaining to the pressure dependence of the magnetization will also be presented.
