Photo induced processes in complex molecules are of great scientific interest. The aim of such research is to understand the excitation and the subsequent relaxation processes. The C60 fullerene is an ideal model system for such studies. It is, on one hand, a quite complex system having 60 delocalized π electrons and more than 100 vibrational modes, but on the other hand, C60 is highly symmetric making it attractive for theoretical studies. In my presentation the effect of elliptically polarized and shaped femtosecond laser pulses on the ionization and fragmentation of C60 will be discussed. From these experiments detailed information about the photo excitation processes can be extracted. Especially, one is able to distinguish singleelectron (SAE) and multi-electron dynamics (MAE). |
