概 要 |
Photoreceptor proteins, Nature's 'molecular eyes' are exceptionally interesting objects of study, not only in relation to their biological function but also because they can be triggered by a short flash of light, allowing the study of functional protein dynamics over a wide span of timescales. In this lecture, I will give an overview of the recent work in my laboratory to discover the molecular basis of the light-activated function of photoreceptor proteins. In particular, ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy has revealed how carefully timed electron, proton and hydrogen transfer processes constitute key events in the photoactivation of two recently discovered photoreceptors: BLUF domains and bacteriophytochrome. |
