題 目:Quantum measurements and weak values.

Abstract
The process of measurement in quantum mechanics is a highly intriguing concept. It concerns both to fundamental issues of interpretation
and to practical issues of achieving optimal precision. We will start with a
presentation of the von Neumann scheme, which is the standard way to
describe quantum measurements. Using this scheme, we can see how the
eigenvalues and the expectation values of an observable are obtained.
Then, the concept of postselection will be introduced and its effect on the result of the measurements, especially when the interaction is weak, will be discussed. The Weak value, which emerges naturally in this setup, will be the focus of the last part on the talk.

Abstract
The technique of weak values is gathering more and more interest.
I will discuss two experimental implementations which hope to apply weak values to gain an advantage in the laboratory. The first is precision
metrology, and the second is in the characterisation of unknown quantum
states. Which features of weak value will prove useful, and which will prove harmful? Can a new class of technologies be built upon the weak values formalism?
