概 要 | In this talk I will summarize progress in understanding energy flow and trapping in the photosynthetic membrane of green plants ranging from the quantum dynamics of individual pigment‐protein complexes up to whole leaves. Various types of multidimensional spectroscopy, including a new technique, two-dimensional electronic‐vibrational (2DEV) spectroscopy, will be applied to these systems along with new theory and large‐scale simulation. The combination of ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy and theory/modeling clarifies the interplay of nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom in ultrafast energy transfer, and the differing roles of zeaxanthin and PsbS in nonphotochemical quenching.
The ability to make a scalable accurate structure‐based model of the grana membrane building on the understanding of microscopic quantum dynamics combined with a structural model of the grana membrane, developed by Schneider and Geissler, enables the role of membrane morphology on photochemical efficiency in Photosystem II to be explored and should permit interpretation of experiments in a wide variety of environmental conditions.
